Brieflee for Windows and Mac

Download Brieflee for Windows and Mac

Your Brieflee account in its own window, and a recorder for your Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and Webex calls. It records from your computer, so nothing joins the call and nobody sees a notetaker. The recording streams to Brieflee as you talk, and the report arrives after the call, as it does for every other meeting.

By downloading, you agree to the Terms of Service, including section 4a on the apps and the speech models.

What it does

The calls nobody put on a calendar.

Someone rings you on Teams, a Meet link lands in a chat, a Zoom starts early. The window is the Brieflee website itself, so reports, tasks and Ask Brieflee work exactly as they do in your browser.

The details below are the Windows app's. What is different on a Mac is listed further down.

Starts when the call does

Recording starts three seconds after Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or Webex takes your microphone, and stops fifteen seconds after the call lets go of it. When a Brieflee notetaker is going to the same booked meeting, the app leaves the recording to it, and records instead if the notetaker is turned away or still waiting to be let in after three minutes (pressing Record skips the wait); if the notetaker then gets in, the app stops, and the two parts can be joined into one meeting. Google Meet is recognised from its browser tab while that tab is in front; after that you can switch tabs and it stays one recording. Automatic recording can be switched off.

Both sides of the conversation

Your microphone and what the computer plays (everyone else) are recorded on separate channels, from the devices the call itself is using, so a headset plugged in halfway through is followed.

A live transcript as you talk

Words appear on screen as they are said, written on your computer once its speech models have downloaded. The full transcript and the report are written by Brieflee after the call.

Out of the way

It waits in the tray by the clock, with Record and Stop, and catches calls while it is running. Turn on Start with Windows in its settings to have it waiting after every restart (it is off until you turn it on). During a recording a small red dot sits above your other windows; point at it for the time, two level meters, Mute, Pause and Stop. Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R starts a recording from any app and pressing it again stops and saves it (the shortcut can be switched off in its settings), and a Windows notification says when it starts recording by itself and when the report of a meeting it recorded is ready. It never takes the keyboard from your call.

Install on Windows

Install in five steps.

The setup installs Brieflee for you alone, in your own user folder, and asks for no administrator password.

On a Mac? Installing on a Mac is its own section.

  1. Open the setup file

Your browser may first say the file isn't commonly downloaded, because it is new. In Chrome that reads Suspicious download blocked: press Ctrl+J and choose Download suspicious file. In Edge, point at the download, choose the three dots, then Keep, Show more and Keep anyway; other browsers have a similar Keep choice. Then run Brieflee_0.1.23_x64-setup.exe from your Downloads folder.

  2. If Windows says it protected your PC

A new program can meet a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen until enough people have installed it. Choose More info and check that the publisher reads XTREME IT SERVICES - F.Z.C, the company that owns Brieflee, then choose Run anyway. If it says Unknown publisher, do not run it, and tell us at security@brieflee.ai.

  3. Sign in

Brieflee opens in its own window. Sign in with the account you use on the website; your sign-in is kept in Windows Credential Manager, encrypted to your Windows account, never in a plain file.

  4. Allow the microphone

If recording never starts, open Settings, Privacy & security, Microphone (on Windows 10: Settings, Privacy, Microphone). Make sure Microphone access is on (on Windows 10, Microphone access for this device, under Change), then turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone (on Windows 10, Allow desktop apps to access your microphone).

  5. Tell the people on the call

Nobody sees a notetaker join, so it is up to you to tell everyone on the call that an AI notetaker is running. Starting a recording, or leaving automatic recording on, is your confirmation that you have. Recording people without telling them is illegal in many places.

What you need on Windows

A Windows PC and a Brieflee account.

Windows
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit, on an Intel or AMD processor.
Account
A Brieflee account. No account yet? Start free, then sign in to the app with the same one.
WebView2
Microsoft Edge WebView2, which current Windows already has. If it is missing, the setup downloads it from Microsoft.
Disk
About 350 MB for each person who uses it, for the speech models behind the live transcript; each person's copy is downloaded once from brieflee.ai. The live transcript can be switched off.
Network
An internet connection while you record: the call streams to Brieflee as it happens, and the report is written on our servers afterwards.
For IT administrators

The MSI, for every user of a computer.

The MSI installs Brieflee in Program Files for everyone who signs in to the computer, and needs administrator rights. Deploy it with Intune, Configuration Manager or Group Policy like any other MSI.

Run the two MSI lines in a Command Prompt opened with Run as administrator. With /qn Windows shows nothing, not even an error, so each line waits and writes a log; error 1925 in it means the prompt was not elevated.

Install silently, for every user

start /wait msiexec /i Brieflee_0.1.23_x64_en-US.msi /qn /l*v brieflee-install.log

Remove

start /wait msiexec /x Brieflee_0.1.23_x64_en-US.msi /qn /l*v brieflee-remove.log

Install silently, for one user, without administrator rights

.\Brieflee_0.1.23_x64-setup.exe /S

Remove a person's saved sign-in

cmdkey /delete:portal-token.Brieflee
  • Deployed as SYSTEM (Intune, Configuration Manager, Group Policy), the MSI always installs to Program Files. Installed by hand from an account that once used the setup .exe, it follows that account's old per-user folder instead, so in that account first uninstall the setup's copy (Settings, Apps) and run reg delete HKCU\Software\brieflee\Brieflee /f.
  • Removing the MSI does not remove the sign-in each person saved in Windows Credential Manager; run the line above as that person. The setup .exe's uninstaller does it by itself.
  • The app needs HTTPS (port 443) to app.brieflee.ai, which carries the app, its API and the recording, and to brieflee.ai, which serves the speech models. The window is the Brieflee website, so whatever your network allows for app.brieflee.ai in a browser applies here too.
  • Each person who runs the app downloads about 350 MB of speech models into their own profile, so a computer shared by several people holds one copy each. The download happens while the live transcript is on, which it is until that person switches it off in the app's settings.
  • A copy installed with the setup .exe updates itself from version 0.1.21: a newer version downloads by itself and installs while the Brieflee window is closed and no call is on. The person can switch that off (Update automatically, in the app's Settings) and update with Download, then Restart and update, never during a call. A copy installed from the MSI does not update itself; it tells the person using it when a newer version is out, and you deploy that version from here the same way.
Brieflee for Mac

Install on a Mac.

For a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 13 or later. To check yours, open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac: a line that starts with Chip means Apple silicon. On an Intel Mac, use Brieflee in your browser. It needs the same Brieflee account, disk space and connection as on Windows.

Version 0.1.18 · Released 13 October 2026

  1. Open the disk image

Open Brieflee_0.1.18_aarch64.dmg from your Downloads folder and drag Brieflee onto the Applications folder beside it. Then open Brieflee from Applications, not from the disk image: a copy opened from the image cannot update itself.

  2. The first time you open it

Your Mac asks once whether to open an app downloaded from the internet, and says Apple checked it for malicious software and none was detected. Choose Open. If it says instead that Brieflee cannot be opened, or that it could not be checked, do not open it, and tell us at security@brieflee.ai.

  3. Sign in

Brieflee opens in its own window. Sign in with the account you use on the website; your sign-in is kept in the macOS Keychain, never in a plain file.

  4. Allow the microphone and the call's sound

Your Mac asks for two permissions, each the first time Brieflee needs it. Microphone is your side of the call. Screen & System Audio Recording (called Screen Recording before macOS 15) is how a Mac lets an app hear what it plays, which is everyone else; after allowing it, quit Brieflee and open it again. On macOS 14 or later, while a meeting is recorded, the same permission lets Brieflee take a picture of the screen when you add a screen moment, and of the slides a Zoom call shows. Both permissions are in System Settings, Privacy & Security.

  5. Tell the people on the call

Nobody sees a notetaker join, so it is up to you to tell everyone on the call that an AI notetaker is running. Starting a recording, or leaving automatic recording on, is your confirmation that you have. Recording people without telling them is illegal in many places.

What is different on a Mac

Starts by itself
For a call in the Zoom, Teams or Webex app. Zoom is noticed when the meeting starts; Teams and Webex when the microphone comes on while that app is open. For Google Meet or any other call in a browser, press Record, or turn on Any other call in a browser in the recorder's settings.
Ends
A Zoom recording ends when the meeting does. A Mac does not tell Brieflee which app is using the microphone, so for Teams, Webex and browser calls press Stop when the call ends; left alone, the recording carries on until nothing has been heard for five minutes.
Where it waits
In the menu bar at the top of the screen, with Record and Stop. Start when I log in to this Mac, in its settings, is off until you turn it on.
Shortcut
Control+Option+Shift+R starts a recording, and pressing it again stops and saves it. The app's settings show it as Ctrl+Alt+Shift+R.
Sound
Everyone else is recorded from everything the Mac plays, on any speakers or headphones. Your side comes from the Mac's microphone, or the one you choose in the recorder's settings; a headset plugged in during a call is not followed.
Updates
Inside the app, from the Applications folder: when a newer version is out it offers Download, then installs it on Restart and update, never during a call.
Verify your download

Signed, timestamped, and checksummed.

The two Windows files and the program inside them are signed by XTREME IT SERVICES - F.Z.C with a Certum code-signing certificate, and timestamped, so the signatures stay valid after the certificate expires. To see it, right-click the file, choose Properties, then Digital Signatures. The Mac disk image and the app inside it are signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, which is what your Mac checks the first time you open it.

Release notes

Windows, version 0.1.23

16 October 2026

While your own Brieflee notetaker records a call, the floating bar now shows how long it has recorded, with Capture (a picture of your screen into the notetaker's meeting) and Stop, which asks once more and then has the notetaker leave the call. It comes with Record calls automatically on, even after you stop a recording by hand, or once you press Record. Capture is also in the Recorder and on Ctrl+Alt+Shift+S.

Brieflee keeps itself up to date. A new version downloads by itself and installs while the Brieflee window is closed and no call is on, then starts again in the background, still signed in. Update automatically, under Updates in the app's Settings, switches it off.

Mac, version 0.1.18

13 October 2026

For Apple silicon on macOS 13 or later. The live transcript now hears each line in its own language, so a call that moves between languages is not held to the language of its first line, and when a call is not recorded, the app's log says why. What is different on a Mac is listed above.
